He's using DS-10 PLUS which has a mode exclusive to DSi. I think you can run it on a regular DS but it won't have that mode available. I suggest looking into the dsihacks site to get started with roms with DSi.

so you can only have 2 instruments and 4 drums per beat? or can you add more?
The newer versions of DS-10 allow for more space to make sounds simultaneously. KORG DS-10 has 2 instruments and 4 drums. KORG DS-10 PLUS, an upgraded DSi version, can have 4 instruments and 8 drums. KORG DSN-12 for the 3DS can have a total 12 instruments, drums included!
